Kimberly Arp

My work has its origins in specific places I have been and landscapes, events and buildings I have experienced. I deal with these specific landscape sites, phenomena and experiences as narrative generating memory images. Using photographs, quick gestural sketches and broken poetic phrases done on site and a process of memory editing over time, I arrive at an image of how I remember a place or event and what impressed me most about it. My image narratives are influenced by and reminiscent of medieval prayer books, alchemy illustrations and religious panel paintings. I intend for my work to speak of unseen forces, unknown spirits and a pervasive sense of the mystical and magical which engenders both "faith and fear."
