The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking

Sheri Fleck Rieth

Within the universe of our memory we fly solo. Like a star at the “event horizon” (the time it begins to spiral inward into a black hole), each of our personal events is compressed into the lifetime of memory within the small curved cavity of our skull. These recollections reoccur within our flying dream of thought. From them we make connections and give form to formless ideas.

Floating bits of information, some personally experienced, and some added by my Mother’s verbal repetition of her memories, have collectively melded into what I think I remember. Sorting my reminiscences and those that have been inherited becomes more difficult with the passage of time.

My memory, like computer files, has corrupted over time and colors what I remember. The colors used in my body of work may be brighter or darker in relation to the memories. The images are “memory triggers” and offer a random sampling of concealed dreams.
