20/20 Vision The Art of Contemporary University Printmaking |
|||||||||
Karen Kunc “I see and imagine a world of hybrid forms that suggest nature and chance occurrence – weirdly beautiful, and strangely accentuated. When I make my prints I seek discoveries and allow spontaneous decisions to evolve the layers and sequences of printed color.” Karen Kunc is known for her large-scale color woodcut prints in which she addresses issues of the landscape and natural surroundings as direct influences from her rural environment, daily experiences and viewpoints, and from extensive travel. Her visual iconography of invented forms and artistic interpretations are means to offer contemplation on larger issues of the eternal life struggle, of endurance and vulnerability, growth and destruction. Throughout her years of printmaking, teaching, traveling, and mentoring others, Kunc has gained international respect and recognition for her contribution to the printmaking field. She is one who has redefined the medium of the woodcut print, and embraces an attitude that blends concept and process.
