Tiffany Lawrence Awww Dayum/Medicine Taken is a body of work that depicts the struggle and beauty of everyday life when having to deal with an unjust government and a non-functional healthcare system. My work describes the invasive and callous nature of gynecologist visits, and how I have witnessed my brother being diagnosed with cancer and his difficulty receiving money for his disability. I am raising an awareness of the constant push and pull of life, but also exploring the empowerment a person can feel by overcoming these obstacles. Through the techniques of screen-printing, drawing and the use of cardboard, I am able to articulate these worldly issues and experiences with confidence and with an open mind. I present the idea of hope and empowerment one can have when making a choice to keep living and striving for a better life.
