Information for Artists
The Gallery welcomes inquiries from
prospective exhibitors. Consistent with its mission, we seek to
exhibit the work of professional artists working in and about the South
and rural America. We urge interested artists to contact us by
email at
firehousegallery@aol.com or by calling Gallery Co-Executive Director Helen Aikman 202.491.8610. Decisions
concerning exhibitions are made by a the Gallery's curatorial committee.
That committee is advised by an impressive group of curatorial consultants,
including Diane Tesler (painting), Kristin Casaletto (printmaking), and
Ben Reynolds (photography). Under no circumstances will the
Gallery exhibit reproductions of original artwork, including giclee or
other digitally reproduced images of originals. In addition, in
general, the Gallery will not exhibit privately commissioned portraiture
or other commercially-driven work.
For your
information, we have provided the Gallery floor plan
below. In addition, you may review, download, and print our
standard form exhibition contract by

Management
The Gallery's
day-to-day operations are managed by the Gallery's residential intern
manager. Our intern manager for 2006-2007 is Maiben Beard.
Chosen from five impressive candidates from around the country, Maiben
is 2006 Emory University graduate and a native of Lafayette, Alabama, a
town of the same size and demographics as Louisville. Maiben has long
aimed to pursue a career in museum work. During her summers she has
interned at the Alabama Museum of Natural History Summer Expedition in
Tuscaloosa, supervising groups of secondary school students and
assisting in teaching archaeology and ecology. She chose Emory over
other universities because it offered her an opportunity to work in
Emory's Carlos Museum, where she has interned since 2003, assisting in
management of the museum collection. Maiben has also worked as a
co-director of Volunteer Emory, supervising a staff of 15 students,
implementing service projects, and acting as a community liaison.
During Maiben’s April visit to Louisville, Friends management quickly
discovered that her background and personality make her completely at
ease in a small Southern town and equip her well for the work of gallery
management – especially youth outreach, one of the most important
components of the Gallery's mission.
Executive Gallery management is provided by
Helen Aikman and
Kathleen Galvin.
